It was late at night while I was playing a game on my computer, and I was just about to close up my office. It seems like we private investigators don’t have as much business during the winter, and this had certainly been the case for me. I was just about to shut down my computer when a gorgeous lady walked in wearing a red scarf which covered her neck and mouth. I asked her what was wrong and she yelled to me, “help me find a cold sore cure!”
If you’ve ever had a cold sore, you already know that those little blisters can be surprisingly painful in your mouth. Just like the lady in my story above, many people are embarrassed by their cold sores and wouldn’t be caught dead with them. So as our heroine began to cry I agreed to take the case. I told her she could pay me when I had found a cure. Because I didn’t want to disappoint her (or miss an opportunity to get paid), I immediately set out to find a cure.
I raced down to the local clinic in search of a specialist that could treat cold sore cures. As usual, the office was incredibly busy and I was told I would have to wait for hours to see the doctor. Annoyed and tired, I sat down in the lobby and found a magazine promoting a natural cure for herpes. The article had some suggestions about how to stop the pain and promote healing time but no real cure.
Just as I was getting interested in the magazine story about the latest celebrity in jail, the receptionist called my name. After brief introductions, the doctor and I talked about how to prevent cold sores. I was surprised to learn that people can become infected with the herpes simplex virus in various ways besides sexual relations.
I came down to the bottom line and asked the doctor if there was any known cold sore cure that he could give me. The doctor said he was sorry that there was no known cure for viral infections such as the cold sore. The doctor became visibly shaken and shared how he wished for some new discovery to save people from their pain. I thanked the doctor for his help. I had no idea how I would tell my client that there was no known cold sore cure.
